Background

My whole professional life has either been directly involved with education and training or has incorporated my expertise in training and learning theory.

I have been working in the Instructional design field since February 2020, creating and updating digital learning experiences for financial and academic clients, as well as preparing oil/gas and education/service clients to tranistion their in-person training to virtual delivery.

I spent 10 years in technical writing for IT, higher education, finance, and oil/gas service industries.

 

My B.S. degree is in Elementary Education, and I served 3 years as a teacher in the Houston Independent School District.

In December of 2009, I graduated from the Houston Community College Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. During my tenure in the ultrasound program, I put my training and writing experience to use as a Study Group Leader and as the Class Secretary.

Created a User Manual, complete with multimedia instructional videos, on the use of Zoom meetings for delivery of Instructor-led training. Assisted the conversion of established Instructor-led training curricula to virtual delivery via Zoom. Conducted Train-the-Trainer virtual meetings to offer guided practice in Zoom features, and to brainstorm use case scenarios to optimize the technology for seamless delivery of instruction.

Implemented Kirkpatrick’s principles of assessment to create assessments to match with learning objectives. Developed job aids and supplementary materials to support learning.

Created manuals, quick start guides, job aids, and other computer hardware and software documentation. Collaborated with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to research product requirements and document user tasks. Managed content for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth documentation for all Personal Systems Group products. Managed projects from initial draft to final production.  Worked with the International Localization team to arrange and verify the translation of documents.

Designed an informational (internal) web site for the Office of Foreign Student Visas. Conducted needs analysis, design proposal, and implementation of the site. Wrote, designed, and developed the online help system for the Questia Media library software using RoboHelp HTML tool. Collaborated with SMEs in the Marketing and Engineering departments to develop functional specifications for the software at the initial development and the 2.0 update release. Conducted task analysis to identify the breakdown of help system topics.

HMT Inspection

Technical Report Writer

Compiled measurement data and visual observation findings from petroleum storage tank inspections into standardized reports of inspection results. Evaluated data for compliance with American Petroleum Institute standards. Connected that information with standard recommendations to include in the report. Generated digital rendering in AutoSKETCH of tank drawings created in the field by inspectors. Marked indications of corrosion or other issues.
